365 Days = 100 Books – Yeah, Right!

So, I gave myself an impossible goal for 2012. Read 100 books. I am the world’s SLOWEST reader. I’m not really sure how to get that validated, but I know it has to be a fact. I still recall my then 12 year-old son surpassing me in reading speed…and feeling the frustration. He’s not even very much of a reader! I have so many books on my TBR list…and I just keep adding to it. BUT it takes me forever to read a book. It’s SO frustrating! This year, I committed myself to reading 100 titles. I figure, this way I will try harder (I hate failing)…so I may even get 30 or 40 read. We’ll see. I’m going to be updating this post along the way with titles. I’m off to an okay start. It’s January 12th and I have 2 books under my belt! Yes…this is me TRYING.

  1. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close – Jonathan Safran Foer (P)
  2. Taking Lessons from Ernest – Trish Stewart (P)
  3. The Book Thief – Markus Zusak (e)
  4. The Fault in Our Stars – John Green (e)
  5. The Sense of an Ending – Julian Barnes (e)
  6. Men in My Town – Keith Smith (e)

P = Print

e = eBook

A = Audio

(When I review a book that I’ve read, I will link to the review in the book’s title.)

  1. And? How were the first and second of 100 books-Kevie-will-read-in-2012? Worth me checking out?

    BTW, you’re insane. 100 books in a year. Insane,I tell you, insane.

  2. I’ve set the same goal for myself, I made it through 76 this year. Good luck, even if you don’t make your numerical goal, you’ll at least read a few good books! I loved Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (hoping the movie does a good job with it). I’ve not heard of Taking Lessons from Ernest, I’ll have to check that title out.

  3. If you do some traveling, or even walking, you could try adding audiobooks to the mix. I usually get 15 minutes in the morning and the same again in the evening just walking the dog. Might up your count some!

  4. Thanks for the great idea, Tobin. I really should start listening to them in the car too. This may help me. (-:

    Deb…I’m going to link them to the reviews I did on my other blog. I won’t be reviewing every book I read this year, but these two were STELLAR!

  5. Thanks, Danielle. Your comment was originally held as spam. I’d be happy with 76 titles!

  6. It really helps for me. I typically average between 100-120 books a year (my personal best was 138) and about a third of them are audio.

  7. thanks for the support, all! (-:

    Kim…I may add a few Dr. Seuss books!

  8. Go get ‘em Kevin!
    Try choosing books with more pictures. I find that helps me ;)

    Looking forward to seeing what you’ve read and maybe getting a few ideas of books to read for myself.

  9. Thanks, Dale. I’ve been considering rereading some Munsch…lotsa Munsch!
